Welcome Home
taken from www.tenthousandhomes.blogspot.com…
Over the past few weeks here, we have been working on building a house in Kabokweni for two girls whose father left and mother is dying of HIV/AIDS. With the help of our staff and visiting teams, we were able to finish this house in just over a month. These young girls who are 15 and 12 years of age, are basically left fending for themselves, while taking care of their sick mother. When we met them and saw the shack they were living in, we felt God’s calling to act upon it.
We at Ten Thousand Homes believe in more than just building the physical structure of a house but creating a home for these children, a place of safety, security, and comfort. These girls have that once again, when we welcomed them into their new house on Tuesday with singing, prayers and cake!
A big thank you to all those who had a hand in creating a home for this family!

Sewing Squares
All the ladies on the base got together to sew squares for a blanket project in the community that we are helping with. These beautifully colored squares that we are busy with in this photo were sent by a lady in Scotland for a specific little girl here.

That’s right. We are setting off for the month of November! David Henry and Nathan Pearce are hitting the road November 1st.
The goal is simple and two-fold:
1. Tell the story of Africa’s beautiful orphan and vulnerable children
2. Help you and your tribe of friends to Engage with this movement of HOPE and HOMES
We’ll be going through Pennsylvania, Ohio, Illinois, Indiana, Missouri, Arkansas, Texas, the south, and a few surprise appearances elsewhere. Stay tuned for a list of specific dates and locations. We’ll also still have open dates in some places, so if you’re interested in having us come through email: davidhenry@tenthousandhomes.org
We’ll be posting videos, photos, tweets, so you can follow our adventure, so keep checking back for updates and join our blog and twitter pages.
This is your chance to come hear about how you can be on the front lines of ending the Orphan Crisis. We have a lot of work to do but with all of you we can achieve what needs to be done to build HOPE and create HOMES. Come see us, say hello, and we will dream and dare together to make this happen.
With Hope,
The Ten Thousand Homes Team

10k Tuesday Oct. 6,2009
Every Tuesday we here at 10k Homes send out a prayer request and challenge, the following is an excerpt from this weeks 10K Tuesday.
When faced with a crisis as large as the HIV/AIDS pandemic, it’s easy to become overwhelmed by the sheer number of people affected. You hear of millions of children left orphaned and it’s as if a part of your brain shuts down. You feel compassion, but what can you do in the face of so many? One way to make a difference is to focus on the stories you know. Instead of praying for millions, pray for the one you know.

May Your Love Give Us Love

May your strength give us strength
May your faith give us faith
May your hope give us hope
May your love give us love
Lyrics from “Into the Fire” by Bruce Springsteen from his post 9/11 album entitled “The Rising”
Though written about the courageous firemen, who lost their lives at the World Trade Center, I often think of these lyrics after spending time with incredible people. People such as Elizabeth, who not only feeds 150 kids from her garage, but also loves them, fights for them, and dreams with them for a hopeful, brighter future. Young people like Pinkie, while left as the sole caregiver for her young sister and orphaned herself, gives of herself unconditionally for the orphans in her neighborhood.
I am overwhelmed by their strength, by their faith, by the hope growing inside of them, and by the love they show with such unselfish consideration.
We write this newsletter that you might read these amazing stories, that they might give you strength, faith, hope, and love. I hope you are encouraged and I hope you respond, joining in the amazing move of God.
You see, you have the power to encourage us as well. By reading, praying, giving, dreaming, coming, engaging, you breathe courage into us. Into the ones who give so selflessly and to love ones they love so much.
This is not about charity. This is about faith, hope, and love. Three things that endure. Three things that change the world.
Gratefully,
Jeremy Price

Arielle’s Princess Birthday Party
Arielle and Emma Grace(her cousin) had their birthday party together. Their birthday is only nine days apart. They wanted a princess party. Here is the little princesses at the cake table. My mom helped me make these dresses and the girls were very exited to put them on for the party.

All Boys Need Princess Chap Stick
Arielle got chap stick in one of her birthday gifts, and off coarse all the boys had to get some! After all it was blue chap stick!
In Africa the best toys are not from Toys R Us!
Since there is so much construction happening on the campus there are piles of sand and bricks everywhere. This particular stack of bricks is one of the children’s favorite ‘jungle gyms’. They hide little treasures in the spaces inside the bricks, like food, toys, leaves, anything that can be mined out again later. Zoe also manages to climb to the top. She is quite the climber, so I always have to try and stack the bricks on the side so that she can’t manage to climb up. In Africa the best toys are not from Toys R Us!
What is Home?
Anneke grew up close to Worcester, a small town in the southern cape of South Africa. When we lived in Zambia, it was a regular vacation spot. Whenever we flew in, I felt an immediate heart pull, like being pulled to the electronics section or the candy bar isle of a store. I immediately had an excitement in my heart, because of all the fond memories there as well as the magnificent scenery.
A few weeks ago, I attended a YWAM conference in the Cape and all of that excitement and love for the area came rushing back to me. I was torn. Did God not lead us to 10 000 Homes in Mpumalanga, South Africa? Did I not just spend all my savings building a house for my family there? Where is my home? Some say home is where the heart is and at that very moment my heart was in the mountains of the Western Cape of South Africa.
While attending the conference, my brother Jeremy was able to represent Ten Thousand Homes by giving a workshop on What is home? Engaging the orphan crisis.

I attended the Seminar and the question was asked, “what is home?”. The answer was not mountains, vineyards, or even newly constructed buildings. It was what you see in the photo, these are the things a home is made of.??We immediately went into a very heartfelt time of praying for those people who do not have a home, even if they have the physical structure of a house. I was reminded of the word God spoke to Anneke and I during our engagement. Our life is not about our home, but rather our home is about giving others home.??Maybe one day I will get to live in the Western Cape, but until then, I’ll be at home.
