What is Home?

Anneke grew up close to Worcester, a small town in the southern cape of South Africa. When we lived in Zambia, it was a regular vacation spot. Whenever we flew in, I felt an immediate heart pull, like being pulled to the electronics section or the candy bar isle of a store. I immediately had an excitement in my heart, because of all the fond memories there as well as the magnificent scenery.

A few weeks ago, I attended a YWAM conference in the Cape and all of that excitement and love for the area came rushing back to me. I was torn.  Did God not lead us to 10 000 Homes in Mpumalanga, South Africa?  Did I not just spend all my savings building a house for my family there?  Where is my home?  Some say home is where the heart is and at that very moment my heart was in the mountains of the Western Cape of South Africa.

While attending the conference, my brother Jeremy was able to represent Ten Thousand Homes by giving a workshop on What is home? Engaging the orphan crisis.

I attended the Seminar and the question was asked, “what is home?”.  The answer was not mountains, vineyards, or even newly constructed buildings.  It was what you see in the photo, these are the things a home is made of.??We immediately went into a very heartfelt time of praying for those people who do not have a home, even if they have the physical structure of a house. I was reminded of the word God spoke to Anneke and I during our engagement. Our life is not about our home, but rather our home is about giving others home.??Maybe one day I will get to live in the Western Cape, but until then, I’ll be at home.
